Financial assistance for student presenters

The International Biometric Society Australasian Region is offering up to two (2) awards to students who are intending to present their research at the Biometrics by the Beach conference in Coffs Harbour in December 2007.

The aim of these awards is to provide financial assistance to students to support their professional development and to encourage networking with professional peers. Each award will cover the

  1. cost of registration for the conference, and
  2. cost of registration to attend one of the two short courses on offer on Sunday 2 December.

If successful applicants have already registered for either or both of these, reimbursement will be made.

To be eligible for these awards, applicants must:

  1. Be qualified to register as a student (following guidelines advised on www.biometrics.org.au/conf/registration.html)
  2. Submit their abstract with their application. Oral or poster presentations are valid.
  3. Provide a single page academic CV.
  4. Provide a one-paragraph summary on why they are requesting funding and how attending the conference will be beneficial to their career.

The closing date for applications is Friday 2 November, 2007. Please email your application to Warren Muller by 5 p.m. on this date. Note that no late applications will be accepted.

Awards will be judged by members of the society on the basis of merit. Successful applicants will be required to meet other conference expenses, such as travel, accommodation and meals not covered by the conference fee. Successful applicants will be notified of their success by Friday 9 November 2007 to enable registration by the deadline.

If you have any questions about these awards please email Warren Muller in the first instance.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for the best talk and poster (as deemed by a panel of judges) presented by a "young" statistician. To be considered for these awards, you will need to indicate so by checking the appropriate box in the abstract template. To be eligible, a person must be a member of the IBS Australasian Region at the time of submitting an abstract and a 'young statistician', which shall mean a person who is studying either full-time or part-time without age limit, or a person who has graduated with a Bachelor's Degree (in a biometrical-related field) within the last five years, or a person awarded a Postgraduate Degree within the past year.
